Roberto Nieves

At 11 years old, Roberto took an interest in barbering. He would often visit his own barber just to watch the people before him so he could learn the process and study the steps of how haircuts are given. Once he was comfortable, Roberto began cutting his friends and family members hair. He quickly realized he possessed a natural talent for working with his hands. Being a quick learner, Roberto began attempting more complex and intricate hairstyles. At 18 years old, Roberto was known as the person to go to for a great cut. Even though he had reached this status, he was not satisfied and wanted to learn to do more for his customers. At 21 years of age, Roberto attempted his first hair design with success. This confirmed his natural talents and projected him further into his career. Roberto has been able to meet many well known barbers with massive online followings. These meetings allowed for him to learn more by discussing cutting techniques with these celebrities, who in turn also acknowledge his great skill. At 22, Roberto started experiencing hair loss of his own. This caused him to constantly wear hats more frequent than he wanted to. Self consciousness lead Roberto to begin shaving his head, but it was still obvious that he was experiencing hair loss. In 2016, Roberto received a phone call that changed his life forever. This call was from Chris Herrera, founder of The Art of SMP, an internationally awarded SMP artist. Chris was newer to the industry, and had yet to leave his mark. Shortly after speaking, Roberto received his own procedure and began training for  his certification to perform scalp micropigmentation.

How is Scalp Micropigmentation Performed?

Using a detailed micro-needle, pigment is deposited in the scalp on the top of the dermis layer of skin.

Professional

If pigment is deposited in the epidermis it will fade, because this layer is continuously generating new cells. The subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is the fatty layer of skin, and if the impressions are placed in this layer it can cause what is called a blowout and this will cause the appearance of smudged, or blurry impressions.

Cost-Effective

The procedure can be used to enhance the existing hairline. SMP is cost-effective and will last eight years or more if the right technician and pigment are chosen.

Safe

When performed by a competent practitioner, SMP does not cause shedding, hair loss or damage to the hair follicles.

Some clients may experience moderate discomfort during the process, while others see it as no more than a minor annoyance. Numbing is used prior to procedure to ensure comfort.
